Loyalty Solutions for Shopify Plus: What to Check

Loyalty Solutions for Shopify Plus: What to Check

Shopify Plus changes what a loyalty app has to handle at checkout. Five checks to run before you pick one, and when points alone stop being enough.

On June 30, 2026, every Shopify Script stopped running. Any Plus brand still running tiered member discounts or VIP pricing through Script Editor lost them that day, unless the logic had been rebuilt on Shopify Functions.

That is the reason leading loyalty solutions for Shopify Plus need a different shortlist than a generic “best loyalty apps” page. A loyalty program on Plus touches checkout, discounts, customer accounts and often a membership or subscription stack. Below are five checks to run before any loyalty app gets installed.

What makes loyalty on Shopify Plus different?

Shopify Plus gives loyalty apps more room at checkout and more custom logic. Checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps work only on Plus, and only Plus stores can run custom apps that contain Shopify Functions. A Plus loyalty setup should use both.

Shopify’s checkout UI extensions documentation states the first point, and the Shopify Functions documentation the second. On other plans, apps can’t add their own UI to those three checkout steps, so redemption tends to happen before checkout. On Plus, a loyalty app can show a member’s balance and let them spend it inside checkout itself.

Five checks before you choose a loyalty solution for Shopify Plus

  1. Does redemption happen inside checkout? Ask for a live demo on a Plus store, not screenshots. If points can only be turned into a discount code on another page, you lose the shoppers who decide at the payment step.

  2. Is every discount rule built on Functions? Shopify’s developer changelog confirms Scripts stopped executing on June 30, 2026. Any tier discount or member price that still depends on a Script no longer applies.

  3. How do loyalty discounts stack with your other discounts? Plus brands run sales, bundles and member pricing at the same time. Ask the vendor to show a cart with a sale item, a tier discount and a points redemption, and check the total by hand.

  4. Can you get your data out? Look for an API, webhooks and raw exports. Your finance team will want the points liability, and your CRM will want tier status in real time.

  5. What happens to points nobody spends? Antavo’s Global Customer Loyalty Report 2026 found that 26.2% of loyalty points go unspent and 11.9% expire unspent (Business Wire release). Ask how the app brings back members who sit on a balance.

Which loyalty solutions do Shopify Plus brands shortlist?

Common candidates are points-and-tiers platforms such as Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Yotpo and Rivo, sometimes with a paid membership next to them. The deciding factor is rarely the feature list: it is checkout behavior on Plus, discount stacking and who designs the program.

We have compared the main platforms one by one, with pricing and where each one is the better choice: Smile.io alternatives, LoyaltyLion vs Subscribfy and Yotpo vs Subscribfy. If your stores also sell in person, our guide to loyalty programs for Shopify POS covers the in-store side.

When are points not enough for a Plus brand?

Points reward a purchase after it happens. For a brand with $5M+ in revenue and a strong repeat base, the bigger lever is often a commitment before the next purchase: a paid membership where the monthly fee comes back as store credit.

You don’t have to rip out your points program to test it. Dossier, a fragrance brand, kept its existing loyalty program and added a $39-a-month VIP membership that converts into $39 of store credit plus 10% off. More than 200,000 shoppers joined, and members show a 125% higher LTV after 12 months (Dossier case study).

We’ll show where a credit-first membership fits next to your current program, using numbers from brands like Tres Colori, where 51% of revenue now comes from members. Book a call with Subscribfy.

Where Subscribfy fits

Subscribfy runs loyalty, paid membership and product subscriptions in one Shopify app, on Shopify’s native checkout. Points, credits, cashback, referrals and tiers share the same platform and customer data as the membership, so a member’s tier, credit balance and subscription status don’t live in three separate apps.

Loyalty pricing on Subscribfy’s loyalty page is set by order volume: $99 a month up to 500 monthly orders, $399 up to 2,500, $990 up to 10,000, and custom pricing above that. The custom tier adds a custom checkout widget and passwordless login.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Shopify Plus to run a loyalty program?

No. Loyalty apps from the Shopify App Store work on every plan. Plus adds checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps, and custom apps with Shopify Functions.

My loyalty discounts used Shopify Scripts. What now?

They stopped applying on June 30, 2026. Rebuild them with Shopify Functions, either through a public app that uses Functions or a custom app on your Plus store.

Can I run a paid membership and a points program together?

Yes. Many brands keep points for every shopper and add a paid membership for their best customers. Dossier runs both.
